Geek the Library is a nationwide public awareness campaign created by the Leo Burnett USA and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Based on the study, From Awareness to Funding, the campaign asks the question, "What do you geek?" The interactive campaign is intended to begin a conversation about libraries and their critical role in our communities, because "no matter what you geek, serious or fun, the public library supports you. " I pitched the campaign to our internal stakeholders and partnered with a mall to hold our launch party. We ran the campaign for the nine months preceeding a political campaign to extend a sales tax benefiting local libraries, which won with 80% voter approval. Solano County Library was chosen from over a thousand participating libraries to be profiled in this case study of a successful campaign.
